GCC Pet Care Guide — دليل رعاية الحيوانات في الخليج

🌡️ Caring for Your Pet in the GCC Climate

The Gulf climate presents unique challenges for pets — extreme heat, humidity, and sandstorms. This guide covers everything GCC pet owners need to know to keep their animals healthy, happy, and safe year-round.

🥵 Summer Heat Protection

Never leave pets in parked cars

Car interiors can reach 70°C+ within minutes in Saudi Arabia and UAE summers. Even 5 minutes is dangerous.

Walk in early morning or after sunset

Pavement temperatures can exceed 60°C at midday. Test pavement with your hand — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paw pads.

Fresh water always available

Pets need 2–3x more water in hot weather. Use a fountain to encourage drinking — pets prefer moving water.

Use cooling mats and elevated beds

Our cooling gel beds circulate air underneath and absorb body heat — essential in unair-conditioned areas.

💧 Hydration & Nutrition

Signs of dehydration

Lethargy, dry gums, sunken eyes, loss of skin elasticity. Pinch the skin — if it doesn’t spring back quickly, your pet needs water immediately.

Electrolyte supplements

For very active dogs in extreme heat, add a small amount of pet-safe electrolyte powder to water — ask your vet for recommendations.

Avoid overfeeding in summer

Metabolism slows in heat. Reduce portion sizes by 10–15% in summer months to avoid weight gain and digestive issues.

Use slow feeders

Prevents bloat from fast eating — a serious risk in large breed dogs especially in hot weather.

🏠 Indoor Pet Enrichment

Mental stimulation is exercise

Indoor cats and dogs in GCC summers need mental workouts. Puzzle feeders, interactive toys, and training sessions burn energy without heat exposure.

Create cool zones

Set up a dedicated cool spot with a cooling mat, fresh water fountain, and shade. Pets will naturally gravitate here during peak heat hours.

Window perches for cats

Cats love watching birds and activity. A window perch gives safe, stimulating entertainment without sun exposure.

Training games indoors

10 minutes of training burns as much mental energy as a 30-minute walk. Teach new tricks using treats during summer months.

⚠️ Signs of heatstroke in pets: Excessive panting, drooling, bright red gums, vomiting, collapse. This is a medical emergency — move your pet to a cool area immediately, apply cool (not cold) water to paws and belly, and contact your vet right away.
